What to Expect at Your First Visit
Visiting a Masonic lodge for the first time can feel intimidating, but lodges welcome visitors and inquiries. Here's what to expect:
- •Most lodges hold open events, dinners, or "stated meetings" where visitors are welcome. Call or email ahead to ask about upcoming events.
- •Dress business casual unless told otherwise. First impressions matter, and Masons value respectful presentation.
- •You'll likely be greeted warmly and introduced around. Masons are generally enthusiastic about sharing their fraternity with interested visitors.
- •Don't be afraid to ask questions. Masons love talking about their Craft and will be happy to explain what they can.
- •Some portions of lodge meetings are "tyled" (private, for members only). As a visitor, you'd attend the open portions like dinners or social hours.
- •There is absolutely no obligation to join. Visit, ask questions, and take your time deciding if Freemasonry is right for you.
